Schedule Posted for 2012

The Allegany County Speedway THE ROCK is pleased to announce its 2012 schedule featuring the Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Factory Stock 4,6 & 8 Cylinders and a few visits for the Classic Cars. Also added to the schedule this year is the Spring and Summer Championships, Rumble at the ROCK, MAY MADNESS the FALL BAWL and the format for the Nationals will be changing. We can’t overlook the kids events. Pit tours, bike races and so much more.

Our season will open with practice on March 31 and end on Oct 6 with the Nationals. You will also notice that the Big Kahuna has been removed from the schedule. “With Super Lates not running at THE ROCK weekly, it was the right move at this time,” new GM Danny Wilson. “If and when the economy turns around we will bring them back but we have to work on what we currently have and make it better…. and we will make it better!!!”

“Taking care of the local drivers, fans and sponsors will be my number one priority. Lets fine turn what we have before looking outside the box,” Wilson noted. “Do I want Super Lates along with other divisions and/or traveling series at our track, you bet and I hope we can in the very near future.”

Also returning in 2012 is the George Hilliard Memorial and ARCH night. The track has scheduled a car show at the fairgrounds but would like to move it to a business location in the Cumberland area. Rules have been posted for all classes and for general competition/procedures for the 2012 season.

Announcement for 2012

The 2012 Schedule and Rules will be posted this week. New items for 2012 include several kids’ events and Spring & Summer Championships for all divisions, Rumble at the Rock and May Madness. We will continue to have the Western MD Nationals in the fall. 

"I am looking forward to the challenges that we face. With the help of the fans, drivers, sponsors and community we will have a great season and future at The Rock," Danny Wilson new Co-Promoter/GM at the speedway. "The economy has hurt this track along with several other tracks but we will not allow that to hold us down. We will run as many dates as the fair board will allow. I am here for the long haul. I believe in the drivers, fans, sponsors and community. There are countless good quality people at The Rock and I am looking forward to working with everyone."

Wilson who was the GM at the Winchester Speedway from 2006-2009, current owner of the Steel Block Bandit Series and current promoter of the Motocross Track at Roaring Knob brings new life to the speedway. Wilson grew up in Petersburg WV and knows the Cumberland area well. Wilson will be putting great emphasis on getting the community involved.

Danny & his wife of 22 years Patti are racing people. Over the years, Danny and Patti have sponsored over 20 different race teams and given countless hours to charity. Their daughter Danielle, Miss Motorsports 2010 continues to make several appearances and helps with the Appalachian Mt Speedweek Super Late Model Series. Their son Christian just loves coming to the races.
